First of all, I have been running again since August. I ran a 5K in October with Chenequa over in the Shoals and we decided after that race to train for Nashville's half marathon in April. I have been working out and training since then. This is a HUGE goal of mine to complete this half and then maybe try a full or just enjoy crossing off something on my bucket list. Well, several weeks ago I noticed that when I run or work out the ball of my left foot hurt. I figured I had a stone bruise or something and continued to run and train. With each week that passed I would ask different runners and search online about this nagging pain. It felt like someone had stuck a nail in the ball of my foot. Finally after I let my chiropractor work on it and I cried all the way home I decided to get it checked out. I had to go to a doc in a box because I have 3 lil kids and don't have the time to get an appointment. So after the xray the doctor thought I had had a stress fracture that was healing and put me in this shoe/boot thingy. At this point, I realized that I might not be able to run this race that I had been working towards for MONTHS!!! I cried the whole weekend. I know there are more races and in the big scheme of things really not a big deal. Totally get that!! but I have never consistently trained and work towards anything like this before and I have been crazy bummed. The doctor sent my xray off to have it confirmed and in the meantime I decided to make an appointment with a sports med foot doctor. Luckily I got in the next day and got better news. No race but better news. Turns out the joint connecting my big toe to the ball of my foot was crazy inflamed. So meds and low to no impact exercise. No running for a month and hopefully can start back soon!!
Next on the list of bad week was Max's allergy testing. I have been dreading this since we made the appointment. My sweet Max has had a snotty nose since the fall. He gets an ear infection or sinus infection and I can't keep him well. So we have seen an ENT and now an allergist. Thank goodness Lucy could keep the other boys and Max and I met Will for the appointment. I felt so bad because Max had been asking for he and I to go on a date for quite some time, so I tried to make the day as fun as I could up to this point but I figured after this he wouldn't ask me again for a while. The doctor decided to test 25 things on his back and then if one of the areas of testing was positive we would do more intense testing of that particular thing(weeds, grasses, trees, etc) So we let Max watch videos on my phone while they tested him. Sweet Max was ok through the first 5 or so and then he lost it. I don't blame him for it, but its tough holding down a 43lb boy that turns into the HULK when pushed. We got through it but we were all a hot mess! To add to the drama, he was allergic to...NOTHING!! He can climb any tree, pet any animal, roll around in any grass. I'm so glad for him but so upset that he had to go through all that for nothing. We have started him on 2 different nose sprays for his non allergic self and I can finally start to see an improvement. Bless him!! And of course only Max would say on the way home that he had a great time with me and hopes to go on another date soon.
That night, I guess all the stress and anxiety hit me and I had the worse allergy attack/reaction that I have had in years. So several benadryls later, I went to bed because we had yet another big day the next day.
My baby boy Sam had tubes put in the very next day. We let the big boys spend the night with Will's sister Laurie because we had to be at the hospital at 6am. I was so nervous for several reasons. First my lil boy was being put to sleep(even if its for 15 minutes that's tough). Secondly, he couldn't have anything to eat after midnight the night before. I was so worried he would wake up crying for a bottle or cry on the way or cry when we got there. Will and I were a nervous wreck!! Luckily, we picked sleeping Sam up out of his crib and directly into his car seat without waking him and drove to the hospital. He woke up when we got there but was too busy flirting with the nurses to notice or care that he hadn't eaten. A few minutes before they came and got him, he started to whine but not at all like I was afraid of. When the doctor came out, he said that both of his eardrums were inflamed because of all the fluid on them so we made the right decision. Bless his heart he has had 7 ear infections in his 10 months of life. The nurses warned us that he might be angry or ill when he came out and they were right. My sweet laid back Sam was livid!! It took about 30 minutes before he drank his bottle and started to calm down. When we left, he slept the whole ride home and most of the day. He woke up and was sweet Sam again. He hasn't missed a beat since then. Thank goodness!!
Reading his books in his hospital gown waiting to go back. Precious baby!
Sweet lil foot
The week did end better! We left Thursday night for a weekend of fun in Birmingham. I'll save those fun details for the next one!!
