He's Here!!

Our sweet baby Sam was born at 4:38pm on Wednesday, May 11th.  He weighed 4 lbs. 11 oz and is 18.5 inches long.  Hearing his sweet cry the moment he was born was a blessing to my ears.  He is healthy as a horse and as tiny as a baby doll.

Monday morning, Will and I went back to the dr after a rough night of contractions and cramping.  Dr. Wheeler wanted me to try and increase my procardia one more time to make me last until the end of the week.  I started the increase that afternoon and could tell that it was not going to be easy for the next few days.  All the side effects that I had experienced with the regular dosage about once a day started happening every time I took it.  By Tuesday morning, I had the worse headache and heart pounding chest that I had ever experienced.  I knew that I couldn't take this much medicine anymore, so I talked to the dr office and they advised me to come off ALL the medicine. I was officially 35 weeks and one day shouldn't make that much difference.  By 1:30am Wednesday morning, I was in labor.  My Mom and Will stayed up with me as we debated on when to head to the hospital.  Finally around 5ish we left and Will's Mom came over to keep the boys.  At the hospital, my blood pressure was elevated and they started doing blood work to rule out preclampsia.  I had already started dilating more and the decision was made that Wednesday was the day!! It was really happening,  By lunch, I received my epidural and around 3pm I was already at 7cm.  Turns out that I had started preclampsia, so I would have had to deliver on Wed. anyways.  Sam Edward Jones was born at 4:38pm!! It was a great delivery, by far the easiest of mine.  He came out screaming!! That was such a blessing because I was so nervous about how his lungs had developed.  He was kicking and throwing his arms around!! He was just the tiniest thing I had ever seen.  The nurses checked him out and said that he looked and sounded perfect.  PRAISE THE LORD!!!  The NIC nurse came down and checked him because of how early he was and his weight and she cleared him.  She said that we had to keep an eye on his body temperature because sometimes little ones have a hard time staying warm.  We had a great time introducing him to our boys and the rest of our family!!  Max had been running a fever the past few days, so he only got to see him from a distance.  The first thing Jack said to Sam was, "Happy Birthday!!" He told me that it sure did take a long time before he got there!! ha ha Isn't that sweet!!

Sam has been the sweetest baby so far.  After everyone left Wednesday night, Will and I sat looking at him a little afraid of him because he's so tiny! His cry sounds like a squeaky door or a baby kitten.  You can tell its him coming down the hall in his bassinet.  Because of his weight, we have started supplementing formula until he can nurse exclusively.  He's doing great.  One of the nurses says he acts like a big baby just in a little body!

It's Saturday and we are heading home in a few hours.  I knew I needed to blog if possible before we get home, because my "NEW" normal awaits me.  It may be weeks or months before I am on the computer again!! ha ha Here are some pics of my beautiful baby Sam! We are in love!!
